Entering your profile

The profile consists of personal data to enable the calculation of the calories (or kJ) you burn when exercising and to establish your initial training zones. You will be prompted to enter your profile upon opening MySportTraining for the first time and you can later edit your profile.

  1. Choose Tools > Options > Profile.
  2. Enter your gender.
  3. Enter your birth year.
  4. Enter your weight and height, either in lb or kg based on the measurement unit setting (see General options).
  5. You can choose to use one decimal with body weight (useful in Metric).

  • Choose the Day View button.
  • Select a date by choosing a weekday, the Today button or one fo the navigation buttons.
  • You can enter one or more workouts for the day as well as health data.

Entering health data

  1. Choose New > Health.
  2. Enter information about:
    • Calories or kJ, such as the total you consumed for the day.
    • Your weight, either in lb or kg depending on the measurement unit setting (see General options).
    • Body fat percentage.
    • Mood.
    • Sleep quality and duration.
    • Resting heart beat rate (beats per minute), taken at rest (e.g. when waking up).
    • Blood pressure, taken at rest (e.g. when waking up).
    • Body measurements.
    • Any other information you want to log (in the Notes field).

It is best to enter this information on a daily basis to provide accurate charts. At a minimum, you should enter your resting heart rate and weight on a weekly basis, in order to review your performance over time. You can set a reminder to help you to do so.

Entering workout data

You can enter a workout by either adding a new workout or pasting a copy of a previous workout (See Copying and pasting a workout).

To add a workout:

  1. Choose New > Workout.
  2. A list of activities will be shown. Activities with a barbell icon are strength exercise workouts. Choose Apply activity filter to display only the activities you have filtered. You can add and delete custom activities by choosing the Add and Remove buttons respectively.
  3. Choose a date and an activity. Then choose OK to create a workout for that activity. You may also tap and hold an activity to create the workout.
  4. Enter the time of the workout
  5. Enter the duration. The format is either hour/minute/second or hour/minute depending on the workout duration setting (see Workouts options). The calories (or kJ) and body fat burnt are automatically calculated.
  6. Enter the exertion, energy and personal rating for the workout.
  7. Cardio workout only: choose the Route button to enter route information: course, distance, pace, ascent, weather, temperature, wind and humidity.
  8. Cardio workout only: choose the Laps/Intervals button to enter laps or interval training data.
  9. Strength workout only: choose the Exercises button to enter strength training data.
  10. Strength workout only: choose the Location button to enter the location the training took place.
  11. Choose the Heart Monitor button to enter the average training heart rate, the target zone and the time spent (in percentage) in the target zone. Choose the Calculator button to use the Percentage Calculator.
     
  12. Choose the Notes button to enter a note about this workout (weather, etc.)

Entering future workouts

When you enter recurring future workouts (that happen more than once in the future), they are entered in Calendar application, because it provides a familar way to manage them. Scheduled workouts are also displayed on the Today screen, like any other appointments.

Simply enter those workouts in MysportTraining when you actually execute them.

Entering cardio training intervals

  1. Select a cardio workout.
  2. Choose the Intervals button.
  3. Choose Add. The interval data entry window is shown.
  4. Select an interval. To browse, add or delete intervals, choose the Browse button.
  5. Enter the number of sets.
  6. Enter the duration of a set, using the format HH:MM:SS. If the duration varies from one set to another, use to Notes field to enter more information if desired.
  7. Enter the recovery period that follows one interval, using the format HH:MM:SS. If the recovery also varies from one set to another, use to Notes field to enter more information if desired.
  8. Enter a note if desired.
  9. Choose OK to close the window.

Note When adding a new cardio workout, an option allows you to carry over the previous similar workout's intervals (See Workouts options).

Entering strength training exercises

  1. Select a strength workout.
  2. Choose the Exercises button.
  3. Choose Add. The exercise data entry window is shown.
  4. Select an exercise. To browse, add or delete exercises, choose the Browse button. To choose from the muscle chart, choose the Lookup Muscle Chart button.
  5. Enter the number of sets. Choose Show each set to be able to enter values per set.
  6. Enter the number of repetitions by choosing a value from the list or entering a number.
  7. Enter the weight and unit.
  8. Enter a note if desired.
  9. Choose OK to close the window.

Note When adding a new strength workout, an option allows you to carry over the previous similar workout's exercises (See Workouts options).

Tap-and-holding an interval or exercise shows a menu that allows you to:

  • Edit the interval/exercise.
  • Chart up to the last 10 most recent entries.
  • Cut the interval/exercise.
  • Copy the interval/exercise.

  • Move the interval/exercise down in the list.

Charting intervals and exercises

Interval and exercise charts show up to the last 10 occurrences and allow you to see your progression. To see such a chart, tap-and-hold an interval or an exercise, and choose Chart.

Intervals are shown with the duration in red and the recovery in blue. The actual duration is either the total duration (set * time) or the duration itself (see Charts options).

Exercises are shown either using the weight itself or the total weight (set * rep * weight) (see Charts options).

Copying and pasting a workout

You can cut, copy and paste any workout. For instance, you can copy a past workout in order to add a similar workout.

  1. Tap and hold on the the workout in the Day view, and choose Copy. A copy of the workout is internally created.
  2. Select the day to add a similar workout.
  3. Tap and hold on the Day view, and choose Paste. This creates a new workout based on the past workout (i.e. a copy). You can then edit the new workout as needed.

Note You can cut and paste a workout to move it from one date to another.

Deleting a workout

  1. Tap and hold on the workout in the Day view, and choose Delete.
  2. Choose Yes to permanently delete the workout, or No to keep the workout.

  • Choose the Day view button to view the workout(s) for a given day.
  • Choose the Month view button to view the workout(s) for a given month.
  • Choose the Report view button to see a list of workouts for a certain period of time. You can tap and hold on the list header to customize the list.
  • Choose the Chart view button to see a variety of charts for a certain period of time.

Search workouts and health records

You can search for a specific word in the workouts and health records notes.
  1. Choose Tools > Find.
  2. Enter a specific word and choose the Search button.
  3. A list of matching workouts and health records is shown. Tap on an entry to open it.


Review a goal

You can compare your current results against a specific goal.
  1. Choose Tools > Goal.
  2. Choose the goal type and enter the related value.
    1. For Weight loss, enter the target weight.
    2. For Weight gain, enter the target weight.
    3. For Duration, enter the time in hours or minutes.
    4. For Distance, specify the distance and distance units.
  3. Choose the Period button to select the goal period.
  4. Choose the Update button to see the result.


Filter activities

You can filter activities to show only the activities that are of interest to you. For instance, if the "Road Cycling" activity is the only activity that is selected, all the views (Day, Month, Report and Charts) will ignore all but the "Road cycling" activity.

  1. Choose Tools > Filter Activities.
  2. Uncheck the activities to be filtered out (hidden). The views will only take into account the activities that are checked.
Note Filtered activities are ignored until they are selected again.


Set training zones

  1. Choose Tools > Training Zones.
  2. Enter your maximum heart rate. The default is set to 220 minus your age, provided you entered your birth year in the profile. Note that this formula is just an estimate, and your actual maximum heart rate may vary by as much as + or - 20.
  3. The training zones are automatically calculated as percentage (%) of your maximum heart rate (see the  table).

  4. Check the Use 5-beat increments if your heart rate monitor only allows you to enter your target zone's minimum and maximum as multiples of 5.

Beam workouts

You can transfer a workout from one Pocket PC to another via the infrared port. This feature must first be enabled (see Workouts options).

  1. Tap-and-hold on a workout in the Day view and choose Beam.
  2. On a second (receiving) Pocket PC, choose Tools > Receive Beam.
  3. Align the Pocket PC's infrared ports. The workout will automatically be transferred.

Make a backup

The workouts and health records are stored in internal databases (like appointments, contacts, etc.), not files.

To make a backup, choose Tools > Backup and select a file on a storage card.

Restore data

To restore data from a previous backup, choose Tools > Restore and select a backup file. Note that a restore operation replaces all existing data with the data from the backup file.


Export data

You can export workouts and health records data into a CSV file, which can be read by Microsoft Excel for instance.

  1. Choose Tools > Export.
  2. Enter a file name.
  3. Select the period that covers the data to export.
  4. Check Workouts and/or Health Records as the data to export.
  5. Choose Export.


Purge data

You can erase some past data to save space.

  1. Choose Tools > Purge Data.
  2. Select the period you want to keep the data for. All data prior to that period will be permanently erased and cannot be recovered.
  3. Choose Purge.

Adjusting regional settings


General options

  1. Choose Tools > Options > General.
  2. Choose the measurement units (American or Metric).
  3. Choose the energy units (calories or kilojoules).
  4. Choose the first day (Saturday, Sunday or Monday) of your training weeks. All views take this day into account week when displaying workouts. For instance, choosing This Week in the Report View results in the list of workouts for the week, starting on the specified day.
  5. Choose the theme (colors) used in the various views.


Workouts options

  1. Choose Tools > Options > Workouts.
  2. Check Use previous workout sets upon adding a workout in order to automatically carry over the most recent  workout sets (interval or strength sets) when adding a workout.
  3. Check Use 2 decimals with distance to enter distance such as 1.75 miles or 2,25 km.
  4. Check Use seconds with workout duration if you want to specify seconds when entering workouts' duration.
  5. Check Enable workout beam to enable beaming functions.


Health options

MySportTraining can calculate your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), which is the amount of energy your body uses at rest. To calculate this value, you must first enter your gender, weight and height.

  1. Choose Tools > Options > Health
  2. Choose the Update button to re-calculate the BMR.
  3. Choose Add the BMR to the Calories/Kilojoules chart to provide a better graph of how much energy are consumed and burnt.

Day view options

  1. Choose Tools > Options > Day View
  2. Choose the type of information to display for workouts and health records. If you track a lot of information, you may choose only the most important information to keep the day view brief.


Month view options

  1. Choose Tools > Options > Month View
  2. Check Show total time on monthly view to display the total workout time for multi-workout days on the Monthly View.
  3. Check Show distance when available to display workout distance instead of duration.
  4. Check Show weekly summary to display the total duration for each week.
  5. Check Use effort colors on monthly view to display the Calendar with colors that indicate the effort (intensity) of the workout for each day. If there are several workouts for a given day, choose which one is displayed between the longest or hardest.


Charts options

  1. Choose Tools > Options > Charts.
  2. Check Use enhanced graphics to use a 3D effect when displaying graphs. Note that some graphs do not use 3D effects.
  3. Check Zoom graphics to narrow the range of the graphs' vertical axis. When unchecked, the range always starts from zero.
  4. Check Show average when applicable to display a dotted line representing the average.
  5. Check Show total duration on cardio charts to display the total duration (sets * duration) for cardio (interval) charts.
  6. Check Show total weight on strength charts to display the total weight (sets * reps * weight) for strength (exercise) charts.


Other options

  1. Choose Tools > Options > Other.
  2. Choose Show image when the application starts and select an image file to display a specific image at startup. Use the Browse button to locate the file.
  3. Choose Enable the synchronization module to enable synchronization with MySportTraining for Windows. On some Pocket PC models (especially the earlier models), this option might have to be disabled to ensure that the basic synchronization (Pocket Outlook) keeps working.


Adjusting regional settings

MySportTraining automatically uses the regional settings stored in your Pocket PC. You can modify these settings as follows:

  1. Choose the Start button.
  2. Choose Settings and the System tab.
  3. Choose Regional Settings and select the settings of your choice.
  4. Once you're done, tap OK. MySportTraining will automatically start using the new settings.
